Su-Valley Skiing

 

*November 27  (Monday): First Practice for High School 

*December 4 (Monday): First Practice for Middle School

 

COACHES:  Head Coach Aubrey Smith, Assistant Coach Jon Korta

 

WHO:  All students, grades 6-12 are invited to participate in Cross Country Skiing!

 

WHY:    Our top priority is getting students outdoors, enjoying the snow and trails and learning a healthy sport they can participate in for a lifetime.  

 

WHEN:    Practice is Monday-Thursday, from 3:05-4:30. Ending the third week in February. We do not hold practices or races over Thanksgiving or Christmas break.

 

WHAT:   We ski in both skate and classic styles, and do a variety of activities during practice including games, relays, technique practice, intervals, and distance skis. Our practices take place on the Su-Valley ski trails or inside the school (on bad weather days).

• $250 if renting gear or $200 without rental

• Free and reduced price for HS: $125 

• Middle School: $100 or $50 for free and reduced

Coaches will strictly use REMIND to communicate information about practices, races, tours.  We require students to sign-up, and highly encourage parents to also sign-up.  This will be how you know all the information you and your athlete needs to know for a successful season!

RACING/ TOURING:    Athletes are required to race at least once during the season.  

• *On several non-race weekends we will hold “Ski Tours”, which are fun skis somewhere around Talkeetna that parents/families are invited to join in on. 

• *The overnight ski trips will be available to skiers who have logged sufficient practices.  

•  *We do not have bussing available, and may ask for parent support on ski tour weekends!

 

• December 8-9th (Friday/Saturday): 5k classic/ 5km skate @ GPRA

• January 19/20 (Fri/Sat): Lynx Loppet in Anchorage (or ski tour TKA)

• January 26/27 : possible race, TBD 

• February 2: Poker Ski, Talkeetna

• February 9/10: Overnight Ski Trip

• February 17: Boroughs; possibly at SVS

• February 24: End of Season Bowl & Ski, Wasilla

 

GEAR:   Student athletes will need both skate and classic skis, poles, and boots. We have this equipment, available to rent, if the skier does not have their own.
